Kia recalls 462,869 Tellurides over fire risk, urges owners to park outside

▶ Listen 🎧 Podcast app

The 2024 seat-fire fix didn't hold, 2.5 million bottles of Lupin eye drops are pulled over a foreign substance, a powdered-milk Salmonella cascade reaches into the pantry well beyond chips, and Honda is recalling 325,000 Odysseys for the third time over the same camera.

If you drive a 2020 through 2024 Kia Telluride, park it outside today. Kia just recalled nearly every Telluride from those years because the front power seat motor can overheat and catch fire, and this is the second time around. The fix dealers installed under a 2024 recall did not hold, and the new campaign tells owners to park away from structures until a dealer can install a different part.

Kia Telluride recalled over power seat fire risk, two years after first fix failed

What: Kia America is recalling 462,869 model year 2020 through 2024 Telluride SUVs. The front power seat motor can overheat when the power seat slide knob sticks, or when a dealer botched the repair from Kia's earlier recall (campaign 24V407) back in 2024. The overheating can start a fire whether the SUV is parked or being driven. Kia filed the new campaign as NHTSA recall 26V430 (Kia recall number SC374) on July 2, 2026, and NHTSA announced it July 9.

Why: Kia has identified 18 unique incidents so far: seven localized seat or under-seat fires and 11 cases of the seat motor melting. No injuries, crashes, or fatalities have been reported, according to BNO News and NHTSA. The key detail is that vehicles already repaired under the 2024 recall are not safe. Kia's own filing lists "an improper recall 24V407 repair" as a fire cause in its own right, meaning the bracket and redesigned knob dealers installed two years ago may have been installed incorrectly and are now contributing to the hazard. As Yahoo Autos reported, a "recall completed" note in a service history no longer means what most owners assumed it meant.

What to do: Park your Telluride outside and away from structures, other vehicles, and anything flammable until the recall repair is done. Owner notification letters go out August 13, 2026, and VINs become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning July 17. Dealers will install an electronic fuse assembly that stops the seat motor from running continuously if the switch is dislodged or damaged. The repair is free. Contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542 with recall number SC374. Warning signs to watch for: a seat slide knob that sticks or does not respond, power seats that keep moving after you release the knob, a burning or melting smell, or smoke from under the seat.

Powdered-milk Salmonella cascade expands beyond chips into the pantry

What: On April 20, 2026, California Dairies Inc. recalled 2,679,357 pounds of nonfat dry milk powder and 19,841 pounds of buttermilk powder over potential Salmonella contamination. California Dairies supplies roughly 40% of the U.S. market for dried milk powder, so the recall cascaded into every food manufacturer that used the ingredient in a seasoning, coating, mix, or finished product. The FDA has posted a Major Product Recall page that is continuously updated as downstream products are identified.

Why: The cascade now reaches well beyond the Zapp's and Dirty brand potato chips we flagged earlier this week (which the FDA escalated to Class I, its highest risk level). The full list, as compiled by Medical Daily and the FDA, includes Ghirardelli powdered beverage mixes (13 products, sold through food service, Williams-Sonoma, and QVC), Target Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix, Fisher nut mixes and Southern Style Nuts and Squirrel Brand products, Pork King Good pork rinds and seasonings, Stoltzfus Family Dairy flavored cheese curds, Motor City Pizza Company 5 Cheese Bread (sold at Costco, Kroger, Publix, Target, and Walmart), Giant Eagle store-brand products, and Williams-Sonoma Fireworks Popcorn. No illnesses have been reported in connection with any of the recalled products. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service also issued a separate public health alert covering meat and poultry products that contained the recalled dairy ingredient.

What to do: Check your pantry for flavored snack chips, powdered beverage mixes, trail mixes, seasoned nuts, cheese curds, pork rinds, and packaged pizza or snack mixes with best-by dates in July or August 2026. Do not eat recalled products. Return them to the store for a refund. The FDA's Major Product Recall page has the current, complete list and is being expanded as new products are identified. If you develop Salmonella symptoms (diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps) after eating a recalled product, contact your doctor and report it through FDA MedWatch.

Lupin recalls 2.5 million bottles of prednisolone eye drops over foreign substance

What: Lupin Pharmaceuticals is recalling 2,530,182 bottles of prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension USP, 1%, a prescription steroid eye drop used to reduce inflammation after eye surgery and for allergic and other eye conditions. The bottles come in 5 mL, 10 mL, and 15 mL sizes, with dozens of lot numbers and expiration dates ranging from July 31, 2026, through March 31, 2028. Lupin initiated the recall on June 4, 2026, after a market complaint reported foreign particulate matter in a bottle. The FDA classified it as Class II and posted the notice on July 9, 2026.

Why: The FDA's health hazard assessment found the contamination could cause inflammatory responses, mechanical irritation, corneal injury, and secondary inflammation of the eye, according to Rolling Out and UPI. No injuries have been reported beyond the original complaint. The specific foreign substance has not been publicly identified. The drops were manufactured in India by Lupin Limited and distributed in the U.S. by Lupin Pharmaceuticals. Class II means the FDA assesses that use could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, with a remote chance of serious harm.

What to do: Find the bottle and check the lot number against the FDA's recall database. The FDA cautions against simply stopping the medication without guidance, because prednisolone is a steroid and abrupt discontinuation can cause problems. Contact your eye doctor or pharmacist to arrange a replacement if your lot is affected. Report any adverse reaction through FDA MedWatch. Hilco Vision, one confirmed distributor, has already told eye care providers to quarantine affected stock and notify every patient who received it.

Honda recalls 325,588 Odysseys over rearview camera failure, third fix for same fault

What: Honda is recalling 325,588 model year 2018 through 2020 Odyssey minivans because water can enter the rearview camera assembly and corrode the printed circuit board, causing the camera image to fail when the vehicle is in reverse. Honda filed NHTSA recall 26V423 (Honda recall number HOX) on July 1, 2026, and NHTSA announced it July 8.

Why: This is the third intervention for the same condition. A 2020 NHTSA recall and a separate Honda product update campaign both replaced the original Magna rearview cameras with redesigned Magna cameras. Those replacements are also failing. This time, Honda is switching to cameras made by Sony. Honda has received 1,648 warranty claims related to backup camera water damage through June 25, 2026, with no reports of injury or death, according to the recall filing and CarBuzz. Honda estimates only about 0.8% of the 325,588 vehicles are actually affected, but the recall covers the full population because any of them could have the problematic camera.

What to do: Owner notification letters go out August 24, 2026. Dealers will replace the rearview camera with the improved Sony part, free of charge. If your backup camera has already failed and you paid for a replacement out of warranty, contact Honda about reimbursement. Reach Honda customer service at 888-234-2138 with recall number HOX, or check your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.
